Eye monitoring / tracking should not be this easy!

If you use an LCD projector to present visual information, and you wonder if your patients even have their eyes open, the RE-5701 will answer your question. Even better, you can combine the RE-5701 with a video-based eye-tracker to get real-time information about eye movement.

The RE-5701 is simple, because the illuminator and eye imager are built right into the patient’s viewing mirror. Set up takes only seconds, so you can say goodbye to the agony of long-range camera solutions.

The RE-5701 is safe, because all components inside the bore are glass or plastic. And because there are no electrical parts inside the bore, you never have to worry about noise or artifacts. Any magnet. Any time.

The RE-5700 systems
  • The system mounts easily to most popular head coils. Simply choose the mounting base, or bases, that offer you the most flexibility for your applications.
  • Careful optical design of the near-IR illumination has eliminated all visible red, so you can use the RE-5700 systems in total darkness with no red light interference.

You can use the RE-5701 to monitor either of your patient’s eyes.
If you need binocular eye tracking, choose the RE-5721.

For MR exams such as fMRI, it is important to know if the patient is really watching the visual presentation…. more sophisticated tasks require measurement of gaze position or saccades. The typical solution is to use a long range camera to monitor the eye. However, because a long range camera is placed outside the bore, it is difficult to set up. Another solution is to place the camera in the bore, but this introduces both safety and RF interference issues.

The RE-5700 systems use a much simpler approach. The RE-5700 integrates a fiber optic image guide and IR illuminator into the mirror the patient uses to view the projection screen. Because the illumination and imaging of the eye is part of the viewing mirror, set up time is only a few seconds. And since the image guide and illuminator are made of glass and plastic, there are no safety or RF interference problems.

The RE-5700 consists of three basics parts:

(i) optical interface mounts on the head coil. The optical interface consists of the viewing mirror and the IR illumination and image guide assemblies, as well as simple adjustments to position the mirror over the patient’s eyes.

(ii) camera interface is located outside the bore on the magnet. The camera interface contains the IR source and the image guide camera.

(iii) tracker interface is typically located at the MR console. The interface supplies power for the system, has adjustments for IR level, has a video monitor, and provides video outputs for eye tracking systems. The tracker interface is connected to the camera interface by a DC power cable (filtered at the pen panel), and by a fiber optic cable that relays the video image from the camera interface.

The RE-5701 is a single channel version that can be adjusted to view either of the patient's eyes.

The RE-5721 allows both eyes to be viewed simultaneously.
